Thesis

Study of the influence of prescription of the constellations model and its trajectories on the redesigned task by teacher trainers

Under the direction of Fabien Coutarel and Guillaume Serres

Abstract

This thesis looks at the continuing education of primary school teachers, which will be radically overhauled in March 2020 by a new institutional prescription. The training model, developed by the DGESCO at the request of the French Minister of Education and named "constellation", is due to be rolled out to teachers at the start of the 2020 school year. This model is prescribed throughout France by many official texts, which are passed down hierarchically to the teacher trainers. The aim of this thesis is to examine the influence of the characteristics of the constellation prescription and its pathways in the education system on the way trainers understand and implement it.
The study begins with an in-depth, longitudinal analysis of the characteristics of this prescription, aimed at understanding the constellation model and the way it has been conceived and disseminated. Then, through an empirical study conducted in several stages and on different scales, we seek to identify the specificities of the task redefined by trainers who implement constellations. Finally, our aim is to explore the links of influence between this redefined task and prescription in the broadest sense, whether the initial national texts or local adaptations, potentially modified by the intervention of intermediary actors.
